My car has had an upgraded map put in (160 something to 180Bhp) and I *think* there is some clutch slippage. The clutch has been on the car for over 80,000 miles, so it is entirely reasonable for it to be on the way out.

Is clutch slippage damaging for the gearbox at all? I don't want to be changing it until it is a lot worse. At the moment, only happens with hammer down but I don't drive like that always and can avoid doing so to preserve the clutch a bit longer.

Thanks.

I am not aware of any issues with the gearbox with clutch slip, it would be more likely to damage the engine from over revving.

I had a turbo petrol car that I drove for while with a slipping clutch until it went completely and I just about limped to a garage. Plus my father who drove taxis for years would nurse slipping clutches for months with no ill effect on the gearbox.

tends to smell a bit after a while though :)

plus it may not be the clutch itself but part of the assembly.... as was with mine.

Like Craig says, a slipping clutch is effectively limiting the torque going into the gearbox, so it won't do any harm.
