clutch noise

my clutch makes a louder noise than i think it should when bringing it up after changing gear or even stationary and bringing it up in neutral. once fully released no noise. gears shift fine. its a metal klonk sound that u usually get with clutches but mine seems quite loud. had clutch changed about 1000 miles ago but made same noise before. bloke who changed clutch said its nothin to worry about and alot a cars do it like most fords. does any of your cars on here do it or do u know if its a problem that gets worse or anything??

Is it adjusted properly? Mine makes a slight noise when the clutch is up but nothing more than what i would expect from an 10 year old car lol

Guessing from his user name he's got a 16v???

Anyway if so the clutch cable is automatically adjusted on them :)

And yes a thrust bearing is the same as a release bearing.... different names thats all, sounds like to me it is and you might as well change the clutch while it's all off!

yeah its a 16v. clutch was changed about 1000 ago tho including bearin. made noise before it was changed. it only makes a noise as your bringin up the clutch, when fully released no noise. u can pump the clutch and it will make the noise every time u bring it up, metal slappin kinda noise. also makes a metal rattle sound as u turn off engine.

Well if it was making the noise before you had the new clutch and still doing it after the rally prep bloke changed the clutch... he hasn't really fixed the problem. From what you are saying it is the thrust bearing or something up with the clutch/gearbox.

Yes sound like the thrust bearing, i had this same problem on my ford courier after rebuilding the gearbox i fogot to change the thrust bearing it sounded like a metalic bearing sort of noise:censored: but when bearing changed it was fine. It does mean that you will have to take the gear box of but at least when you do it you will not have oil everywhere as the drive shaft inner cv joints stay in the gear box:)
