i have been replacing my gearbox, and its now time to re fit the clutch cable, however i cant seem to get enough slack to re fit it, it is a self adjusting cable, i know it says self adjusting but you must be able to adjust it for such jobs! i did give it a bit of a pull and gained some cable but as i let go it went back to its normal length and now i cant do it again, please help.

When i replaced a self adjusting one, there was enough slack to connect it to the clutch pedal. Sure you bought the right one?

if you get a new one they are strapped up ready to release once fitted

if you remove a self adjusting one without strapping it up first then it will spring out to max

theoreticaly they are useless but if you have the knack they can be reset

you have to sort of pull and push with both hands and get someone ready to strap it up - i've got a spare i'll get some pics

tip: dont cut thos loose straps off they are they to hold it ready

Nice one for your help mate. The AA bloke came out and do it as wen i got recovered at 3am sunday morning the bloke said ah the cables different to the one in my van if u get one i will put a note on the file and ring us up and we will fit it for free. So i was like kool i will hold u to that and i did. The bloke was using a fair few swear words but he did it in about an hour :D glad it wasnt me.
