Clutch adjustment on 085 gearbox

Spiro

Hi all,
I have a 1.4 ABD engined Ibiza with the 085 gearbox, fitted with a manually adjusted clutch cable.

My question is about setting the clutch cable free play. The Haynes manual specifies 25mm play at the clutch pedal, which is vague to measure.

Can someone tell me what the free play should be at the gearbox end ? (the way some other manufacturers specify. i.e. in millimeteres gap between the release arm and the cable outer end.)

Thanks!

Self adjusting is it not?

I installed the cable, then just tightened the nut until the nylon made contact. worked perfectly

however, if your clutch slips still, you've just worn it out

Thanks for the reply Mork.
No, doesn't have a self adjusting cable, just a manual one.

I've set the gap to 1mm and it works great there. 5mm doesn't disengage the
clutch fully (drags, and the shifts are notchy.) So 1mm it will be.

Have just fitted a new clutch kit and release cable .. still going strong at 130,000kms.

Cheers all!

I think I was on clutch number 3 at about 110k miles, so original at 130k km is good going.
