mine used to do it also.. spray a bit of copper grease around the top and bottom of the spring.. solved the problem for me :)

my LCR on FK silver line plus coilovers does this very annoying noise!

i took it back to BBT who fitted them and chris cleaned them up with brake cleaner spray and then reapplied the FK spray the coilovers come with and that made the noise go away for about one week.

chris said there was nothing wrong with the coilovers and if the noise comes back then i should get my top mounts replaced under warranty.

so i did this and the noise went away, but now about 6 weeks later its coming back! :(

whilst on holiday recently i was thinking about how to resolve this... my idea is to put some copper grease where the spring sits on the platform and also under the topmount where the rubber sits on the strut.

i will be doing this later this week, fingers crossed it will work!

it is obvious now that coilovers are common for being noisy, especially on our type of suspension because it twists when we turn (it doesnt on all cars right?!)

and interestingly enough, on holiday whilst reading a car mag, i read “unlike some other coilovers there are no noises from the springs movin around in the platforms” this was on a review of tiem of watever the make is called!

over and out!

The TEIN's on my starlet gt did this, it was the pillowball top mount sticking, spent a good half an hour greasing that up and it was fine after that.

The bilsteins on mine make a slight noise every now and again, can't remember the last time they did it mind you.

It's just the spring coiling and then springing back on it's self.

so where exactly should i put the copper grease... i was goin to put it where the spring sits in the platform and under the top mounts.

i gues i should put some between the smaller and bigger spring too!

so basically anywhere where the spring can move and cause friction against anything!

I greased the top bearing which was part of the adjustable top mounts.

As you turned the wheel you could see the bearing sticking, therefore loading the springs.

After half an hour of turning lock to lock with someone using spray grease in to the bearing it eventually free'd up.

Hope this helps.

that makes sence!

because the SEAT mechanic who did my top mounts said they were in good condition, it was just the bearings that wernt in the best of conditions!!!

so obviously its the bearing in the top mount that needs greasing!

how do i get to this bearing?

is it just a case of undoing the nut at the top, then removing the top mount... is the bearing inside the top mount?

thanks!

I had this problem with the H&R Cup kit for months. I had the kit almost a year before I got replacement front shocks and springs which were exactly the same. I received my money back in the end and bought FK silverline coilovers. I had wasted loads of money of labour costs trying to get to the root of the problem though! I may get the occasional noise now and then with the FK's but nothing like what I had with the H&R's which clonked and creaked with every manouver.

It's the spring turning in the shock, it had worn off the coating on the shock! My top mounts were replaced but it was exactly the same so I wouldnt rely on it being top mounts. Maybe the compression isn't correct on the spring?

The above problem was on my Starlet GT, i'm not sure how the top mounts on the ibizas work.

I'm wanting some adjustable ones for the ibiza, but they will have to wait.

Looks like a good old greasing is in order.

Also you think the end of the spring might not have a big enough chamfer on it to stop the sticking? As it might be digging in?

Need to take it all off and have a look.
