Clunking Coilovers

I know daz has the same problem, not sure how bad it is, but mine is gettin me down now. When i turn the wheel, say for parking i get an awful clunking/clicking from what sounds like, and apparently is, the top spring of the coilover, its as if the spring is sticking to the top mount and jumping. It doesnt seem to be fouling anything else like the arb or anything....

Is there any torque setting on the centre top mount nut?

So any help would be appreciated.

i have the same set up as your self and i do have that horrible clunk. i thought it might of had something to do with the steering rack.

I hate it, always get looks from people wondering what it is.

Are you sure its the coilovers? Had the same kinda thing when my steering joints went on my old Fiesta

yeh its the coilovers mine do it too, its so annoying its like the spring sticks and then jumps and goes twang its horrible, i want to know how to get rid too.,

I have had that on all the suspensions i have had on my car!

Standard, koni shocks and eibach springs, now FK silverlines.

Feel like a tw@t when it makes a noise like you say!

I'm gonna take the lot off and have a good look to see whats goin on.

It happens on my Cordoba with FK's

Doesnt bother/worry me in the slightest...

It's annoying but can be lived with. But it's not going to look good when the time comes to sell the car?

Just print this thread off when you come to sell it, prove that most mk3s do it

mine did it in my last car dropped it 50mm and when steering parking etc doing the same thing, the actuall spring slipps from its seat and jumps back in.
all i did is sprayed a bit of oil on it and it stopped doing it.

mine used to do it also.. spray a bit of copper grease around the top and bottom of the spring.. solved the problem for me

If you spray the copper grease as said, that should help.
I think its a trait with coilovers, all together, seem to remember reading alot about this, from the fiesta forums too.

If the spring is coming out of the cup, then that aint good! (Could cable tie it in, Rally car stylee)

copper slip/grease it when you assemble it
mine on the bilsteins did it on the main spring to assister spring joint.

my kw's dont do it, but have much stiffer springs

I need to look closely at it i think.

Wouldnt copper grease eat away at the rubber top mouunts?
