I had the front pads replaced at 17k, and since then they clunk, I know it is the pads moving in the calipers, but it didnt do it before. I have spoken to the dealer (bournemouth Seat) and they seem to be unwiling or unable to help. I have read in here somewhere that there is a seat mod for this, does anyone have any reference numbers or anything I can take into them and say "do this" ! :thumbd:

My LCR does it too, louder since the pads were changed. So have some of my previous cars. It really is nothing to worry about, unless the clunk is very loud.

Sorry, but I havn't heard of any mods.

This is not necessary! I had same problem. Do a search on the subject on this site to get the answer. Basically the dealer has not fitted the brake pads properly. It can be resolved.

You might be right!

It's better to play safe with things like brakes... Mike32 should get them checked out if he's not sure. :)

I know its not a safety issue, just annoying, I was wondering if there were any seat techs in here that can help, ive searched the forum but cant find anything relevant.

I had mine replaced on Monday, and now a get a noise on the brakes on first application after changing forward/reverse direction.

So, for example, if I pull into a parking space going forwards and brake, there's no noise. Then when I reverse out, I get a slight clunk as I slow to stop.

Obviously this is the pads moving in the calipers, just wondered if it was the same sort of noise?

i have the same clunking noise, well its sounds more like a cracking.
i've taken the brakes off and cleaned them, still the same.
I was wondering if its because they are not the proper seat pads, but if you guys have had the work done at a dealership it can't be that.
Any unwanted noise is a problem, it may affact another part in the future if it's not working properly. please let me know if you manage to solve the problem

I changed my discs and pads to grooved brembos and red dot fast road pads, did it my self and cant think of any thing that would cause it. Most pads for brembos have a lead edge to help ease pads into operation each time the peddle is pressed, could they have been fitted upside down? Also there is a sprung plate that fits in behind the roll pins to keep pads pressed back into there seats, maybe they have been incorrectly fitted.
I would take off the wheels and see if anything feels loose i.e pads, sprung plate or pins, they should be all tight with very little play in them.
Hope this helps.

look under noisy breaks and my postings to find answer, Vern is your man!

he suggested;-

  • Not enough or No Coppergrease used on the back of the pads
  • Also check the anti squeal springs are located right

Mine clunked and had coppergrease I assume I didn't use enough.....maybe  cos the anti spueal springs were in right

I have this exact same problem.... My car was fitted with new discs and pads by JCT 600 SEAT before I picked it up 3 weeks ago.

It is identical to how Feel describes it.. gonna take it back at some point. Bloody annoying.

I've had the same since I fitted new pads. Just ignore it as I know it's all put back together right. You probably could stop it by using enough copper grease to pack them out but it must be such a small movement it can't do any harm.

Exactly I just ognored it, saved myself enough £££ doing it myself + the Ferrodo DS2500 pads were way better than OE

I thought the springs were "anti-rattle" springs to stop the problem of the pad moving in the calliper as you apply the brakes.

I think the clue is in the name "anti-rattle". Doesn't say "anti-clunk" now does it :D :p

The clunking is a "feature" of the brakes. My second set of pads (fitted when I posted above) where the worst, since then either the holes in the pads have got tighter, or I've grown to live with it.

Or more coppergrease on the second set ;)

The OEM (BREMBO) pads have a back plate attached to stop them moving around in the caliper! After market pads don't have this so you notice the clunk alot more!

I have in the past removed the back plate from a used set of brembo pads and fitted them to my after market ones, which does stop it but they tend to rust and swell causing uneven pad wear!
