climate control problems HELLLLP PLEASE

u have been very helpful on here before so let my try your expertise again

problem is with my climate control as my aircon doesn't work the screen flashes every time i start up and the fault code is

01087 basic setting not performed
005 no or incorrect basic setting/adaption

can someone help

i have VCDS but dont think its real

Hopefully a simple fix:

Select Auto-HVAC (08)
Select Basic Settings then run or OK

(Trying from memory)

This should run the basic setting and calibration test. See if this resolves your issue

What issue is your VCDS ?

I used to have issues running BASIC SETTINGS on my wife's Polo 9N - only fix was to disconnect the AUTO A/C module, ie reboot it.

After about 5 or 6 years and many updates of VCDS, it now works okay - RossTech could not throw any light on that issue, though in all fairness, these cars with that type of controller would never end up in USA.

Yuck, that is not very handy. Maybe try removing its power and reconnecting it again. I always managed to read the Auto A/C module once with the older versions of VCDS and VAG-COM, it was when I performed basic settings that things went bad, so I think that I read/cleared fault codes, rebooted Auto A/C module, perform basic settings and left it at that, every time I was tempted to rescan the module there was trouble, so I reported this to RossTech and eventually this problem disappeared. At one point, as I was the only one to have this problem, I thought that my Auto A/C controller was goosed, but it seemed not!
