Climate Control Compressor

Owned my car from new in 03. TDI Sport PD130

Climate Control no longer blows cold air.

Took it to Kwik Fit for a gas recharge hoping this was the problem. Not had the CC serviced since purchase.

Told me it seemed the compressor was faulty (they checked the fuses they say).

Took it to an air con 'specialist' who looked at it and said that the coil in the compressor has 'gone'. He said he could open up the compressor, sort the coil out and get it working for £180. This garage does not look very professional and I have doubts about it (down to first impressions, i.e. smoking in the workshop!!!).

I asked SEAT if they could do this and quote me for it. They say the whole unit needs to be replaced at a cost of £642.00!

The car is way out of warranty.

Who is right? Is it advisable to let someone crack open the compressor and 'have a go' at fixing it? Any advice gratefully received.

Just had the same problem diagnosed this morning, was quoted approx £420 for an exact part replacement, exact same Ibiza and you.

£642!!!!!! the dealers are not called 'stealers' for nothing!

Get an alternate garage/air con specialist to give you a quote

i have EXACTLY the same problem as you, and SEAT said there was a small flap that was faulty so no cold air was being chanelled into the cockpit.

the flap would cost 7 quid but because it's half a mile under the surface of the earth (or dashboard) they are able to justify a 450 quid labour charge!

so i just tolerate it for now - and i'm getting a remap instead :D
