Clicking When Turning Over !!

Right my car has been off the road for about 2 and a half months now and it has only been started up a few times but it has generaly started up first time. I had to jump start it once off my girlfriends car. I went to start it the other day and nothing it was dead so I jumped it again and it started no problem, so I took the leads off both cars and it carried on running for a minute or so then died again. Went to start it and it was just clicking like mad but not starting. So I tried jump starting it again and it just wont start it just clicks like mad. Could this be the battery? I have always thought a clicking noise points to the starter motor or maybe solenoid. Hmmmmm.

Check the voltage from the battery first, should be 12v, or slightly more.

If you started it using jump leads from another car that means the battery is flat, and for some reason is not charging.

I would check the auxilliary belt, make sure it hasnt snapped, and also that it has a good tension.

Then if that is okay, check the battery connections, and also the leads from it at all connections.

Is there any leakage of fluid from the battery? Did you get a battery light on the dash whilst it was actually running okay? If the battery light came on that suggests the alternator, however if not it suggests the battery may need replacing.

I borrowed my mates battery charger and gave it a trickle charge for 16 hours and it now starts first time. It needs a bloody good run. All good now:)

I had a similar issue with mine. Battery went dead as soon as the car stopped - turned out just to be a duff battery. £10 from local scrappy and job done
