Changing Tweeter speakers or just how to take off door panel.

Hi there,

My first time putting on a thread but I thought I might aswell do one due to the fact I managed to kill the left side tweeters while messing around with the stereo (cranking it up a bit too much )

Changing the Tweeter

1) First you need to pop off the door handle plastic front using a flat screwdriver as show in the picture below. You will need to pull on the door lever once the plastic has popped out around it to wiggle it off.

2) Now the cover is off your door should look like the picture below and the next step is to undo the 2 screws pointed out using a cross headed screwdriver (they will be tight so make sure you have a good size driver)

3) At the bottom of the door you will find 2 more screws that you will need to undo as shown .

Please NOTE that you will need a T20 screwdriver (Tamperproof size 20 aka hex) to undo them.

4) Now you have the 4 main screws off that hold the door panel on you will now need to pull on the sides of the door panel to release the plastic clips so do take care when doing this and try not to do it when its really cold as the plastic may break on the pop clips.
The pictures below give you an idea where these are located

5) By this stage you should now be able to lift up the door panel over the lock that pops out on the left hand side (the knob that locks the door by hand) and then it can hang down attached still to the door by the door lever cable. Disconnect the top right hand connector that is attached to the tweeter on the door panel as shown in the picture below.

If you want to check the tweeter is no good then you could do what I did which is to get another tweeter ( I got 1 from maplin for £3) and pop open the connector case on the door. put the stereo on and play something then just hold the + & - from the new tweeter onto the terminals as shown in the picture below and if it works then you have a faulty/blown tweeter but if it doesnt work try getting a continuity meter of some kind (even an l.e.d on a 2.5v battery if u dont have 1) and checking the cable from the stereo output left or right (depending what door speaker your checking) is reaching the connector that it plugs into on the door.

6) To remove the tweeter speaker from the door panel you will need to pull the clips off around it carefully. The picture shows what the panel looks like from behind when the tweeter has been removed.

For the rear door panel you will still need to pop off the door handle cover so follow steps 1 and 2 then skip to 4 as there are no screws holding the bottom of the rear doors. When putting it back together always slide the top of the panel in first making sure you have the hand lock lined up with the small tube in the top of the panel before pushing it down into the gap by the window. only at this point should you try pushing the outer plastic poppers in making sure they click in (shouldnt need to bang the door panel to get it clipped in all around).

Here are some pictures which may help you. they are what the tweeter will look like when you finally get it out and also the back of it with the part number / code for if you wish to order a new one.

When I ordered my new tweeters from seat main dealer the cost + vat was £15 each and all you will need to do is give the reg for your car and they will know what the part number is anyway as its on file for your car...

If you just wanted to know how to take off the door panel I hope this thread helps you. While your changing the speakers you may want to change the inside door light to a new colour depending on your taste, im debating if i should tint them down a fraction hmmm.

Many thanks

It stops the rattles and will help make the bass sound better, you can use stuff like "Brownbread " or "Dynomat" but they are reather expensive, When I did my last car I used Hi-tack roof flashing from Wikes or Homebase, it's basically the same as the big brands but a lot cheaper, I'v just done my boot and it had made a big difference.

roof flashing is definitely not the same, but is still effective, i prefered to use dynamat though as one layer of that dampens like 2-3 layers of flashing.
