Is it possible to change the weight of the LCR steering? If I wanted to make it lighter, is it a case of swapping the pump for a MK4 golf one??

Same for the golf, can you fit a LCR pump on a golf to make it heavier??

AFAIK the LCR rack has less turns lock to lock, but is that the only difference, is it the rack the governs the weight or the pump pressure??

TIA,

Tom

You'll find the wheels on the LCR ad a fair amount of weight to the steering!
You still find it heavy when moving? IMHO i think its perfectly weighted!
You don't want it to be too light surely!

im kind of with audiman on this one, i think the steering on the lcr can be a little on the heavy side at times.

the steering on my old focus was a fair bit lighter and that had far more feel than the lcr.

its not like i've only ever driven power steering either.....i've had a mk4 + mk5 escort and an old suzuki swift among others.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the level of power assistance was adjustable via vag-com? No idea if it actually is but maybe someone can confirm?

IMO the weight of the LCR steering when standard is fine, though I noticed that since changing to F1's coilovers, poly bushes etc. its got a bit lighter.

If anything I'd like to get it a bit heavier again now.

At low speeds, my FR's steering is really heavy - at speed though, I think it's just fine.

I had a punto that had a "city" button that lightened the steering even more. Perhaps that's what we need.

Or bigger forearms.

Whats happening to us boys!!!
Our great grandparents used to break rocks for a living and were complaining about slightly stiff steering.....
WTF
But I feel the weighting is perfect

think your question is valid as i understand it can feel heavy to anyone with mobility problems ie my missus.

she finds it very heavy to park and the question we would like answered is if anyone knows if its a pump or rack change to golf bits or poss a restrictor in lines?

any serious replies appreciated, although i think its ok but wife wants to change car if no fix

If its parking when she is finding that the steering is heavy then try driving very slowly whilst turning the wheel and she will find it is far easier.
If its normal driving the can't help there

Put the tyre pressures up?
Its the easiest thing to do, if she's only doing a bit of town driving then thats the easiest thing, if its gonna be motorway, maybe not a good idea!

I 'upgraded' from a Golf 4 - I was quite suprised at how much heavier the steering is on the Leon, not that its bad, but its a lot heavier.

On the Ibiza's and new Leons its possible to alter steering weight as the steering is electro-hydraulic. The Mk1 Leon uses a older hydraulic system so you're stuck with what you've got unfortunately
