Changing seat covers

Hi,

My front seat base covers are starting to bobble and fray. I've managed to get an OK price on replacements, but just wondered if anyone knows what is involved in removing the old ones and fitting the new covers?

Would it not be easier and cheaper to source some replacement seats from a scrapped Ibiza?

If they are just bobbled you can go over them with a razor and shave the bobbles off. It works a treat on the seats and carpets too.

I've been quoted £100ish for all the bits from the dealer, it's just how difficult it would be to fix it DIY that I'm interested, as it's the labour that seems to be stupidly expensive - not that they could actually explain exactly what was involved! The fabric is available in either the upper part (back) of the seat or the lower (i.e. the seat base) so I'm assuming this can be done individually - just not sure what it entails.

Ta, might give this a little test and see what happens, they're probably going to get replaced anyway, so I have little to lose. Maybe I could use this as the excuse I need for a full leather retrim

the bottom coushins of the back seats are easy to do as they are just wrapped around in place held there by the form. not sure about the front seat but imagin them to be the same.

Solved this thanks to Nath.'s suggestion. Went to local homeware place and got an electric lint shaver (normally used to remove bobbles from jumpers etc). Ran it over the seat a couple of times, removed all the bobbles and fluffing, then gave it a good hoover. Not bad for £7.

I have just replaced the front passenger seat cover on my formula sport cos the previous owner had somehow managed to get a hole in it! The best way is to

1 Remove the seat from the car (4 splice screws at each corner)
2 Remove the plastic skirting from the bottom of the seat (screws are torx)
3 The cover itself is secured to the seat by a plastic 'rim' that interlocks into a metal rim. Pull out the plastic rim from the metal one. The bottom part of the seat will be able to come off now if you unhook the small parts of foam from the back of the base.
4 Pull the cover up untill you can see rods with hooks on the end which lock into the frame of the seat base.
5 Use pliers to pull the hooks undone on all of these hook (there are 8 of them)
6 There are 4 red clips in the middle of each rod, unclip these.
7 The cover will pull off now!

Be careful....this is quite fiddly lol!
