Changing rear view mirror ?

I picked up my Leon TFSI this weekend and on the whole I'm pleased as punch with the car. The driving position with the long windscreen takes a bit of getting used to but is fine. However the rear view mirror is bugging the hell out of me at the moment and I'm trying very hard to get used to it :censored:

I can only imagine that in order to cut costs Seat have just taken the same mirror and mounting point from the Altea and nailed onto the Leon. Come on Seat, you can do better than this !!

For moderately tall people (I'm 6'2") the mirror is set quite low which you can deal with, My second car is a Lotus Elise which has the mirror at eye level which works fine. However combine this with the mirror being HUGE and it sitting about 8" nearer to you than on a normal car (ie; hanging from the roof, not the windscreen) and you find yourself having to peer underneath it when manouvering.

What can be done about this?

1) fit a smaller mirror, but what car in the VW group has the same fixings and is smaller?
2) remove the Leon mirror, and mount a smaller unit from a car like the old Leon or Golf on the windscreen.

I reckon option 2 is the more likely solution as it a) puts the mirror about 50% further away from your face ! and also allows it to be mounted slightly higher.

So;

a) which car to source the mirror from ?
b) what can I put in the hole that will be left by the Leon mirror, sunglass case, blanking plate?

Any ideas appreciated, and if someone out there can measure how large the Mk1 Leon mirror is that would be be great :)

Your not the first person to complain about the MASSIVE mirror...

Makes you wonder what the test drivers do all day? Surely one of would be over 6 foot and have the ability to say that the mirror needs to be changed.

Makes you wonder if they can screw that up so well - what else they've not done right.

I'm 6ft 7 and it's for that very reason that I have decided to stick with my Mk1 Leon Cupra.

In the new Leon I can't see anything on the near side, combining the mirror with the huuge A pillars, and visibility is non existent.

I say we start a petition to have adjustable rear view mirrors. Everything else is adjustable!

Strangely the mirror hasn't bothered me nearly as much today, I have adjusted to seat to a more laid back position maybe that's it... I'm sure it'll p1ss me off again tomorrow

I’m 6ft 1” and while I’m no giant I don’t find any problem with the rear view mirror, but I do have the seat in the lowest position. Also we had rear parking sensors fitted which (even though I’m a bloke and can park any car into the smallest of spaces) are great.

I am 6ft2 and do not have any probs with the mirror unless my midget woman drives it. Then I have to squeeze into the drivers seat and readjust everything.
