I am interested in changing my grill to the new balck cupra one. have been told the whole bumper has to come off to change it? Can any one help! Was quoted at the dealer £75 to remove the bumper as it would take an hour! Can it be changed without this hassle and cost?
I had a go at doing it and it felt as though the clips inside were going to break. whats the procedure of getting it off then. Dont worry im strong mate.
You need to prise the 2 clips upwards from the outside. It takes a fair bit of effort to do but it is possible. I was just amazed at how heavy the grill was.
They are on the side of the grill attached to the bumper. If you bend the grill out (extreme force) you can see them. I have put a mesh grill on and only used the 2 pins at the top to fix it on as the grill didnt come with side fixings
is there no threat of breaking these clips though when you pull it forward. So i have to pull the two clips upwards and then does the grill just lift out?
I'm sure there is a danger of the clips breaking. I used a long thing flat head driver to push the clip away from the grill. If you just pull up the grille wont budge until the clips snap off. You need to push the clip in whilst pulling the grill up
I took mine off and it was not easy at all I broke some parts but it went back in ok and does not move.
I am going to be taking it off again soon to swap it for a black cupra one so hopefully it will come out a lot easier.
I would just go for it ,You do have to put an extreme amount off force in to get it out which it strange for what the part does you would think it was holding the whole front together.
Long screw driver & some elbow grease is the trick, I've even taken the chrome trim off it & painted it black ready to refit, just takes time, no rushing.
