Hi All,

To ask what is probably a really dumb question.....

If changing my newly bought FR from 17" to 18" black alloys, i presume new tyres have to be bought aswell?

Isthere anything else to take into consideration i.e lowering the car etc

Apologies for the dumbasss questions, have nae idea about car set-ups.

Be gentle....:)

Also, does anyone know of a tradein scheme, dont really fancy being £1K out of pocket.

Cheers All

If I'm not wrong your 17" alloys have a tyres that are sized 225/45 17"
And you will have to buy new set of tyres sized 225/40 18" to fit the rims..
You will not experience alot of hight gain but your car will be higher from the road.
The ride will be tougher but the grip and the handling will be better...

No idea about trades..
BTW what color is you car ? I also changed my white leon's rim to 18" black alloys and the car looks very aggressive !

The wheel will be 3mm greater in diameter, making the car 1.5mm higher off the ground - if you can see that I'll be amazed!

Be careful of aftermarket wheels.

My S3 ran on 18's with an offset (from the hub) of ET56. When I purchased 19's the dealer (Wheelbase) tried to send ET35 but these will rub the arches. In the end they sent ET42's and only under extreme loading do they catch at the backs.

Make sure if you go aftermarket that they also send you the hub adapters and some centre caps, and avoid the 'budget' tyres; they are $h1t.

many do not do trade-ins.

It will be ebay my friend or advertise them in the sellers section on here with photos and see who is interested.

As mentioned, if aftermarket, make sure you get the correct offsets for the car with the right PCD (think that's what they are called)

Defo need to check but think Leons PCD is 5 x 112.

Get confirmation from the seller that they WILL fit before buying just in case.

Can confirm my 18" have 225/40 R18 rubber on them so that's probably what you need (mine came from factory as 18" on the K1)
