Changing a brake light

Hi All,

My OH owns a 53 plated Seat Arosa, and we need to get to a rear brake light to change the bulb, but the manual does say how the hell to get to them. Can anyone provide any helpful hints/tips on how to get at the rear cluster of lights?

Many thanks,
Dexter

yes: open the tailgate, and you will see a single torx head screw half way down the inside edge of the light cluster. Remove that and ease the cluster sideways away from the centre of the car. There are 2 lugs which locate in rubber bushes inside the outer edge of the cluster, it will pop out then. Then remove the two phillips screws from the back and the bulb holder assembly unclips.

Hi,

Thanks, we have looked at that, but obviously didn't look and try hard enough. Will try again with some different attachments on my screw driver.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Sorry to bother you again but we've had another go but the "single torx head screw" isn't aligned with the "hole", basically the black plastic trim is in the way so I don't have a clear line of sight to the screw.

Any advice at all?

There shouldn't be anything in the way: this is the screw I mean: unless your Mk2 is different to my Mk1

Hi,

Thanks for the pic. Her's definitely doesn't look like that - I'll try and get a couple of pics up within the next day or two to show you what it looks like. Unfortunately, I've got work to do now :( lol.

Hi,

Finally managed to sort a pic out. There seems to be a raised part, where you screw is sunken in to.

I've hosted the pic on PhotoBucket but can't seem to link to it here! Apparently, I need to post 15 more times! Can I post the link but in two halves or something?

Any help much appreciated.

Nope the forums wont let me post a link until I've posted 15 times or some number like that.

I don't seem to even be able to send you a Private Message! How frustrating.

I don't want to have to post for the sake of it just so I can post a link, surely this rule is encouraging spamming/trolling/etc?

Dexter, will it allow you to just copy the html code - not the image one, just a link to the image? If so then we can have a look and see if we can work out what is different on yours :)

Hmmmmm I see what you mean now. Must be something to do with the MK2 lights.

Is it definitely attached, or will that bit of plastic come off, as it kinda looks like a cover...

It looks like its bonded to the light ? Try pushing the entire unit away from the car to see if it free's anything up ?

Hi Everyone,

Finally got the chance to have a look at this on the OH's car yesterday. And upon close inspection and based on all your help. I had a better fiddle and it seems that the little "embossed" bit of plastic where the screw should be (as seen on grotmeister's photo), actually has a little tiny gap underneath that allows oyu to get a fingernail/screwdriver under it and flip it off! It really looked like it was all part of the solid black plastic trim.

Once again, many thanks for your help. Would never have found that without it!
