do a search for key fob re programming or something similar on here. im not sure if the keyfob would need reprogramming if you change the batteries or not, but if its the imobiliser thats causing you a problem, maybe try re programming it. only takes a few seconds, might take a few attempts, but the procedure for doing it has been posted many a time

Uh Oh...... if you've changed the battery and reprogrammed the key (which you must have done to get it to work the central locking), and now find that the car doesn't start....

Sounds to me like the little black transponder that sits inside the key could be missing.....

Remove the 'blade' part from the main body of the key, and on the inside of the plastic bit attached to the blade there should be a little black box, this is the transponder. Without it the immobiliser will just cut the fuel to the engine.

you're looking for the thing with 'CV' on it in the below pic.... that's the transponder.

or similar

may not actually have CV written on it

if its missing - FIND IT

or you are looking to get a new key

got a spare key that works ???? you can swap it from that as a stopgap

new key from main dealer is about £90

your spare key will have the transponder molded into it.

you could always 'hide' the spare key under the dash, and then just use your fob key to open.close the car...... (note I don't recommend you do this.....)

the 2nd key will have one of the chips you need inside if its starting the car ok

best plan (cheapest) is to open the original (non CL) one and remove the chip but dont cut it (usually fitted in the bottom) so peel the top apart

GLUE (as you lose em) it into the Y part of your central locking key so that one works the doors and starts the car

then get down your local locksmith who usually will be able to take your now complete CL key and clone it to a new solid type (same as you just cut open)

you then have it all sorted and back where you were but a solid key (clone) is usually a lot cheaper than getting your Y key replaced

last one i did cost me £12

PS - get us a pic as sometimes the solid types have a red box in it that is the top of a tray that holds the chip
