Change ECU's?

Had a quick search but cant find the answer.

Can you change over the ecu from one LCR to another, or do you need to program the immobiliser/alarm/anything else? Engine codes and ecu part numbers the same, 1 may have a revo remap in tho!!

The immobiliser knows the identity of the ECU it is matched to and will not let the car run if a new ECU is fitted. VAG-com or its equivalent is needed to introduce the new ECU's indentification code to the immobiliser (which is part of the dash panel).

The alarm is completely separate, an independent system not connected to the ECU.
