Hi, my CFWA engine 1.2 TDI has been fabulous,at 91,000 miles, so good I am not going to trade it in...for what ? there is nothing out there that will give me 80mpg on a run without trying.
As she aproaches 100,00 miles I look to do a major service inc Timing Belt. I read that VW transvers engines require off side engine mount removal for access and to be able to lower and raise engine to remove all belt related components.
Q. Help please, The CFWA engine being such a short 3 cylinder motor with better room to work than most, Is it possible to do a cambelt replacement inc all rollers and tensioner without removing the engine mount. If money were no object I would just buy an engine support beam and use it if needed, but like many I am on a budget, any Techies out there with knowlege and or expierience with the CFWA I would really apriciate your input. Thanking you in advance for your info. Ta. Rob.

On many modern cars the engine mount has to be removed I am afraid. If you have a trolley jack then find a plank of wood and jack the engine of the mount, that always what I do but usually if the belt goes around the mount then it will need taking off. If it does not go around it then you should be able to drop it off.

Thanks for the reply, it looks from the top that the mount is 'Y' shaped with quite a lot of room between the mount and the belt cover, it may need some light from underneith to determine if the bottom of the mount will fowel the belt and rollers as they are taken off, but yeh I agree with you, you expect every transverse engine especially the 4 cylinder's to have to remove mounts, the ones I have seen have almost nothing between cylinder one and the side of the engine bay. Thanks.

Just had a look with light on my iphone and amazingly the egine mout bottom bolt as well as the two top bolts are all outside of the belt gaurds and therefore no abstruction to getting the belt and rollers out. This car design just gets better. Thanks again.
