centre consol lcd screen problem

ok i bought a new car yestoday a 2000 seat ibiza s. It was all fine ecet the lcd screen it appeared to have the information on the screen but was very faded and only way you could see info is if you push down on section of screen you want to see. SOOOOO i took centre consol out and made sure connections are all ok and they was but now the screen just lights up with no information what so ever. THE funny thing is i was driving and the lcd came back on for about 30secs and then the information on screen just froze??? all the controls work like air con and all that ??? but its just screen i have searchd and found nemorous ideas such as changing hand brake fuse, making sure connection is not loose and so on stilll got same problem help woud be nice??????


also power steering fluid was under the low mark and steering was very heavy i have topped up the fluid but still seems to be very very heavy as if there wasnt power steering????????


last fault is that clutch sticks slightly as if it catchs somthing went it is released from floor?????

help for all of those little faults would be very helpfull as at the moment cant get full potential out of my new car.

O the car as only done 50,000 miles

the lcd is prob the connection from the board to the lcd screen so a full strip down clean and put back together might fix it

the other probs i cant help as i dont have a clue

If the powersteering fluid was low, and you topped it up and it still wasnt working it could be the actual pump is knackerd, happend on my works van, Keep a check on the fluid as mine pissed out everywhere with the van!

Fluid level stays the same have not lost any since i toped up.

For the trip computer came on 3 times today and worked for a few minutes each time and then it just froze. Anyways question??? how do you get other information to display on trip computer such as mpg average speed stuff like that all mine shows is temp inside and outside carr, fan, radio name, and time????????

want to do this consol convertion but i dont have a soldering iron ???

Id get the pump checked out mate, saying that i had a 03 mini cooper from new and about 2 months after i had that the power steering went, was in and out of the garage for about amonth in the end they had to replace the whole loom which seemed to cure it! Im not sure if you can hook it up to vagcom or not for these kind of faults? Sure sombody will know tho.

best way of finding out about the head unit or display is to get some one local with an ibiza and if they were soo kind is to try theirs and see if it fixes it. Its not expensive to replace as seat do a reconditioning service for £70

my local dealer wants £120 to get the unit reconditioned and they said it will take atleast 2weeks.

screen deciding to come on again when i got in to my car and lasted 3 minutes. I need someone to mod my centre consol so i can have a cd player in it who wants to do it and how much i heard someone on here will do it for £50

Hi Donovan,

I posted a very similar problem to your's the weekend before last.

It's my missuses car 2000 on an X plate with only 17k on it........

She rang the local Seat dealer who were NOT interested in the job at all, in fact she said they were quite rude on the phone. They claimed it would take at least 2 weeks to fix and that they would need the car for the duration as it would not be driveable at all...!!

What a load of crap...!

The problem i think you'll find is all to do with the radio...... seems that it's a well documented and known fault.

Does the LCD panel on your's stay illuminated even when the ignition is turned off..?

Anyway...... my missus then rang a local 'aftersales' expert shop in this kind of thing (Anglesea Motors, in Shirley Southampton), they were EXTREMELY polite and helpfull on the phone, and said that she was more than welcome to take the car in at any time, so she went along within the hour..!! They disconnected the radio module to be sent away for repair which would take approx 5 to 7 working days, and in the mean time they had set the heater temp to 25'C and enquired if that was warm enough for her to drive around in until the radio was returned..?

Should all be back and working hunky dory by the end of next week...... Cost..? around £80 hopefully.

thank you for your response the screen has been on to day and it looks like it might stay like i hope touch wood. Wanted to knw how you get the screen to display other information such as mpg and average speed someone said that if i aint got the switch on the stalk then i cant get that information is that true if so could i fit a stem with a switch to get that information as i know the lcd can display the info???
