Central Locking

The battery run out on my keyfob so i looked at the manual and it said just hit the "unlock" button twice and it will reset itself to my car, this didnt work so I followed the "programme new key" bit in the usuer manual (naughty boy i know cuz its meant to be done by a dealer) and after i take it out of the ignition i hold the lock button and press the unlock button 3 times like it says. and the light flashes 5 times like its supposed to. but then the doors are meant to lock which they dont... not happy as my drivers door lock is bust at the mo so i have to unlock from passenger side then walk back round. any suggestions???

(sorry for the essay)

in mine i had the batterys in wrong that metal plate has to go inbetween the 2 batts
and did you change both batts
then i turned the key till the lights came on and then took it straight back out press n hold the lock button press the unlockbutton slowly 3 times then let go of both buttons i also had to do this twice before it worked
on a downer side are you sure its just the batts and not the key itself

Well ive tried again, and the batterys must be working due to the lights flashing, i fear though the immobiliser may be to blame. Cuz when i take the key out, by the time its flashed 3 out of the 5 times i hear the imobiliser kick on. im guessing this shuts all the electrics to the ignition down so maybe it "forgets" my key was in there a second ago. ill get onto seat (even though last time they were rubbish at helping me)

if the red light isnt on its either

A - batteries buggered (if you have 1 only replace it with 2 older thinner types a lot more powerful/reliable)

B- batteries in the wrong way (it happens)

C - broken remote (VERY RARE but possible)

if new remote required ya looking a good £40 and reprogram is doing what it says in the book

and as per other post

try this :

turn ignition on to red lights (max 5 seconds)

take key out (you now have approx 20sec to comply )

hold the button with the key on it down - and press the second (plain one) down 3 times

the keys led should flash 5 times and the car will lock and flash indicators

you NOW have another 20 seconds to add a 2nd key ?

if finished

turn ignition back on to red lights and leave OVER 5 seconds or just wait over 20 seconds .

this turns learn mode back off

thats what i did in the first place, but the doors didnt lock and there was no flashy flashy from the indicators, but the lights on the keys work fine.... hmmmmm :(

could be problem #1 stopping you achieve #2

check out the drivers door lock first 'cos if its jammed in lock/unlock the central locking won't work at all

open door
just inside door level with handle there's a small 20p size grommet
pop it out
allen key bolt sunken inside
undo that and handle will pull outwards
you might have to wiggle it to get it over the lock/open tabs

if you hear a jangling noise that's your broken door lock cylinder trying to escape out the bottom of the door

My bold - fixing kit available from ebay if it is just the lock mechanism that is broken. Reasonable price and not too difficult to change - worked for me and will probably have to get another as passenger door now playing up!!

hey, im having the same problem, not only is it annoying walking round the other side but a bloody embarrassment, my light flashes on the key when pressed but nothing happens, also tried like you with what the book says.

well without trying to sound to technical, i can hear my imobiliser kick in, so when the key fob starts flashing it can only flash about 3 times before the imobiliser kicks in. its an aftermarket one so i was thinking maybe that was the problem but if youve got the same thing then maybe its just the fob. hmm maybe time to give in to the seat dealer....

If you put the key in the drivers door and it just turns easily with no activation it is probably the cast metal section in the lock that has fallen apart.

I have had to replace both doors.

The middle of the lock mech is a cast fiddly bit of metal that just falls apart over time.

Can pick it up fairly cheap (few quid IIRC) from dealer and it is easy if not a bit fiddly to replace (watch where the springs go!)

IIRC it can be replaced by removing the handle without removing inner door panel.

sorted my central locking :D:D:D, usually i follow the guide and take it straight out and hold the lock button and press the unlock button three times... this didnt work.

tonight i pulled it out and waited for the imobiliser to kick on (about 2 seconds) i knew it was on bucuase of the flashing light by the ignition. and THEN pressed it and it worked.

If you wait till the imobilser kicks in it should work fine :D
