Hi guys this is the first time ive been on here so please bear with me.
I have a mk2 p plate ibiza which the central locking as ceased working on, now ive read all on here about the locking, checked pump, key, battery voltage etc and all is fine and dandy but ive read in the haynes manual that the reciver for the key fob is in the rear view mirror but the pictures it shows in the book the mirrior is attached to the roof and with mine haveing a sun roof my mirrior is on the screen?? ive had the mirror off and NADDA not a thing in there or attached to it. does any one have any idea where this bloody thing could be or what the problem could be else where??

cheers in advance guys..

If you have infra red locking the receiver is in the mirror but I'd say 99% of ibizas are RF so there's an aeriel behind the front passenger wing.I've just been fitting an alarm into a Cordoba so I might be able to help a bit here...

When you say it's not working, do you mean it doesn't work from the remote key or it just doesn't work at all?

If it doesn't work at all it's not the reciever but something more simple.

Check the fuse first off. Next when you go to lock the car listen around the petrol cap area and see if you can hear a buzzing sound.

Come back after you've checked those and I'll guide you a bit more.

hi thanks for that. need to check for the aeriel but yeah the locks work fine the pump in the boot is fine and all the pipe work which connects the locks is fine too. so its just the remote or the reciver and the remote has been tested and seems ok
thanks again ill have a look tomorrow for that aerial cheers

There's no F in Quality..
try resyncing the key to the car.... have a search on here, Flapper wrote a "how to guide" ;)

another way to check if it's RF or IR, is to check the key itself. Has it got a little bulb in the black body just above the blade? (not the one by the buttons) if it has got one, it's IR, if it hasn't it's RF ;)

early cars were infa red and had reciever but then went to radio signal that has the reciever built in to the ecu (under the dash above the top right of the glovebox iirc) and doesnt need pointing to a sensor like a tv remote

to program / reprogram

1 ignition on to red lights on dash
2 turn off immediately and pull key out
3 HOLD 1 of the buttons down (dont matter which)
4 PRESS the other 3 times ( with a SLIGHT pause) 1 . 2 . 3
5 watch led on key (should flash) and doors usually try lock/unlock
6 turn ignition key back on to red lights and wait 5 sec
7 key out again and test operation

worth a few tries with buttons swapped over - if the led on key flashes 5 times you know thats trying to code up - or even test batteries for at least 2.95v minimum - any lower they usually work just the led and lack signal strength

99/100 times its all that is needed - seriously - and get in the habit too i used to have to keep doing mine about every 9/10 months :)

last resort - new remote - or better still test the car using a mates just make sure you reprogram it back to his car after you used it ;)

first try batteries in both - sounds daft but they can still just work once or twice and almost recharge themselves - or better still measure their voltage - should be a minimum 2.95v in each

manually fix the drivers first would be a good start as that may be causing other issues

then reprogram the remote etc after that as there is no point trying to get remote locking working if the locking itself doesn't work as it should

this guide will help you get the door handles out to have a good look at whats wrong, just don't pull anything apart unless you have the key in the lock barrel unless you like nasty jigsaw puzzles :)
