Central Locking Problem

Hello everyone,

I am having some problems with the central locking at the moment. The first one is that the key does not sync to the locking in the car, but i have changed batteries and tried re-syncing it again and again and no luck. I have had a look for the central locking reciever and the workshop manual said behind interior view mirror, but i cant find any wires etc. so it must be somewhere else.

Also, when i try and central lock all the doors in the car, they instantly unlock after 2 seconds and i think this may be because of a faulty passenger side lock (the barrel just turns so i am going to replace the lock). Hopefully the passenger lock is what is causing the central locking to unlock itself again, but is there any other reason why the central locking kicks back?

My car is a '98 ibiza air (the one with electric felt sunroof and little spoiler on the back), also are the screw fittings the same for the 16v spoiler cause i am thinking of getting the bigger better 16v spoiler for my car :)

Peter.

only the early models had infa red type locking, if you have no reciever to aim at then yours is most likely the later radio type one

firstly before you attempt to mess with the remote locking i would make sure its working correctly manually, you may even find it already works but the manual problem is stopping it from operating

the central locking is pnematic so you can unplug each stage from the locking pump at the back and block em off to help narrow down what is causing the issue, look in teh drivers side rear 1/4 panel tucked away for the air pump itself

It's kicking back because it thinks there is a door or a catch open somewhere if that helps, check the talgate mechanism inside is the easiest one first

I'm jealous of your sunroof, i have the motor all fited in mine but the 'air' trim to cover it has been backordered for 9 months now and looks liek i'm not gonna get one :(:(

spoiler wise the 16v one (mine) is mounted to 3 holes in the glass but i think either the 8v or early one didn't
