alright folks, spent a while reading all the threads on central locking issues - mine seems to be a similar problem to many other people's: drivers door lock won't turn but passenger side will, so I have to let myself in from that side (what an ar5e that is!), my key fob's had new batteries & flashes OK whenever you press it. The doors lock & unlock remotely sometimes but not always. The problem is intermittent - sometimes it locks with the fob but repeated button presses see it refusing to unlock, then sometimes it does it first press. Sometimes I stand there ages pressing the buttons & it won't do either.

I've recoded it several times using the instructions on here & I've had a quick look at the pump pipes in the boot & can see they're connected OK (not checked anything behind the door panels yet).

My question is - does the receiver in the car wear out/forget the key's signal & ever need replacing? Has anyone ever replaced the receiver in the car & if so, how much did it cost? I love the car to bits (98 S plate Kiwi & had it from new), but this is driving me potty!!!

I did notice that a little groove has worn into the circuit board in the key fob - could this be the problem? Wouldn't that mean the key doesn't flash when I pressed it???

Not too sure about the 'remote' side of things , apart from like you, what Ive read on here( luckily never really had any issues with that) but when you say "wont turn " do you mean it physically wont or does it just spin and spin?
reason im thinking , it could be the locks inner spindle (its like a little paddle shape that comes out of the back of the barrel).. im wondering if thats broken hence not being able to use the key in the driver side? if that is the case, you can swap the barrels over from door to door, i had to do that on my old 1.4 mk2 as the drivers door one had snapped after someone had tried to break in

That spindle is only about £2.50 from a SEAT dealer, might have to order it in.

That same fault happened on my golf, then cupra, then my gti!

yep.. its a cheap part, easily fixed when I had it on my old mk2 it was like that when i bought it in fact it was one of my bargaining tools ;) that and the 'Gearbox issue' (he said it not me :D) which was actually a pedal box issue, sorted with a big drill and a loc-tight bolt :)

fix the handles/paddles so the doors work as they should firstly

that then takes a mechanical fault out the equation
