Central Locking Issue

Hi guys, I have an issue with my 59 plate Ibiza 1.6 CR TDI’s central locking. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I noticed today that the key fob suddenly stopped locking and unlocking the car. I thought it would be the battery, so took it to a local garage to get a new battery. Only cost £2.

However, the key now works to lock and unlock the car but only when I press the buttons within 2 feet of the driver’s door. If I’m round the other side of the car, it won’t work.
The light on the key lights up wherever I press the button.

What could cause it? It’s so sudden, before hand I could lock or unlock the car about 50 feet away. Could the battery just be poor? It’s a 3v cell, and the right type, CR20232.

Thanks!
