central locking fault

Hi
I have a 98 GTI 8v Cupra. Everything was fine until the central locking stopped working.
Initially the fuse had blown, when I replaced the fuse all was well, until I started the car and in blew again.
After replacing it a few times the fuse was ok and the central locking operated ok from the passenger door. (using the key, the remote hasn't worked for years)
If the central locking was locked from the passenger side then the drivers side would open the central locking, but would not lock the central locking again.
My local independant garage thought it was the actual door lock on the drivers door. He changed the lock but it did not cure the problem. He wasn't able to find the problem and has given up!
Now when the locking is activated from the passenger door it works ok but about 10 seconds later the central locking open itself, so I can't lock the car. The driver door still doesn't work the central locking.

I don't want to take it to a Seat Dealer, they will probably charge more than the car is worth, unless its a minor problem.

Has anyone experienced similar problems or have any ideas?

Thanks crezz

I checked that, but it's not the problem. Has anyone experienced any problems with the micro switch on the central locking at the back of the key actuator?
