CDA 9835R + Illumination

I've got an Alpine CDA 9835R that i've had for a while and i took it out today (needed to do that for another reason) but when i was putting it back in i wondered if i could get the dimmer switch next to the wheel to dim the HU - measused it up and found the pin that controlled the lights - all wired in fired it up and no it just stays dim - pulled the orange illumination cable out again and full brightness - weird

Does anyone know how to wire this in proper - or even what voltages will mean the display is at full brightness with the dimmer - i know its an old HU but im sure there must still be a way.

Cheers!

(I'm also gunna try and dig the manual out and see what that says but have no idea where manual is!!)

Ok after reading my destruction's i think i understand - all the radio looks for is a voltage - this causes the dim. In the Leon there is always a voltage - hence the dimmer always on! Damn it!

Thanks for the help but it wont work - the HU just looks for any voltage to dim - as there is a constant voltage on pin6 its stays dim

The idea is that in other cars the illumination comes on when the headlights are on so pin6 will stay 0v until the headlights are on then will have a voltage - dimming the head unit at the same time!
