CD Multi changer

Not sure if this has been asked before but........ has anyone had problems with their 6 disk mutli changer.....?

I've got an 04 Cupra R with built in sat nav but i'm constantly having trouble with the unit in the glove box trying to read my cd's.

All the cd's are original (i.e not copies) but i'm finding it very frustrating that sometimes the cd's are found and all the other times it comes up with CD errror.... :censored:

Anyone know of a quick fix or is it back down the dealers for a moan......! i've tried a cd cleaner disk at that hasn't worked either.

I took it back to the main dealer and they said its cos i had a few "Back up" cds in there

took it in again without them and they still did nothing :w4nk:

So i am waiting for Seat uk to tell them to issue me a new one

it is worth checking to see if any of the CD's you are trying to play have any form of 'copy protection' software installed by the record label.

This used to cause me lots of problems, so I stopped buying copy protected cd's.

All is fine and dandy now!

Looking back through old threads i've found the below...... i might try this tonight and see how it goes, failing that its down to the dealers...!!!

Mine was hopeless, totally unusable, I used to get "Error" and "CD Error" about 80% of the time. There are a pair of fingers with rubber pads which remove the CD from the cassette to load it into the player. The fingers were pulling the CD out, but losing grip before delivering the CD to the player. Hense "Error". The rubber pads can be cleaned using alcohol, i.e. from a tape head cleaner. I used a cotton wool bud with one end soaked in the alcohol taped to a thin piece of plastic as an extension. No dismantling is required, it takes about 30 seconds. My changer now works perfectly and does play CD-rs.

The fix is worth a try...

My unit errored the same, did in the V5 too, and in the TT. Have replaced it with a Sony T70 MP3 changer and no more probs...

Just to let you all know, over the weekend i tried the cotton bud trick and it worked a treat. :D

I didn't use tape cleaner fluid though, instead i used Lucas brake disk cleaner which works exactly the same and evaporates without trace, so shouldn't affect the cd player in anyway!

If anyone’s having the same problem its worth a go before you have to spend out any money!

Bowks, glad it worked - it was me who posted the info originally. I find I need to clean them once every couple of months, as the problem eventually returns, but it's easy to do so not a problem.

I haven't got a photo, and sold my Leon about a year ago, but take out the cassette which holds the 6 cds. Look towards the bottom of the space where it sits, you will see a pair of white fingers pointing to the right hand side of the player. Each finger has a small white rubber pad, these are what you need to clean.

Didnt work for me :(

Sometimes it just says 'changer' then switches back to the radio, sometimes it says 'error' and sometimes it starts to play only a horrible pulsing noise come through the speakers for about 1 second before it switches back to radio.

No copies in the magazine and I cleaned the bits and cleaned as much as I could internally.

Foxy, I only had 'error' or 'disc error' come up on the display, never 'changer', and I also never got a oulsing noise. Sounds like you have a different problem.

It may be worth disconnecting the changer, and reconnecting it, to illiminate the possiblilty of a bad connection. You need to remove the changer from the glove box, which is very easy, and then you will find the plug behind it.

To remove the changer, unclip the plastic trim which goes below and to both sides of the changer, then remove the screws this reveales.

Update! I have just repaaired a freinds one, in her LC.

Cleaning the fingers, made no difference, in the end I founf out the drive motor which spins the cd was sticking, so I gently washed it through with a small amount of wd40, then cleaned all components to make sure none was left in there. It now works perfectly, so there's something else to try, all be it a little more complex, because it requires removal of the changer from the car, and dismantling of the case.
