Catylic converter core is loose?

My car just had an MOT and there was nothing really wrong, he just replaced a sidelight bulb.
He did diagnose the strange grumbling noise that had bothered me for a while however.
As the title says he told me that the catylic converter 'core' was loose. He said it's not a problem yet, but it will be in the future.

I asked how much and he said between £100 and £150 roughly.
Has anyone else had a replacement? or got an idea on cost/time needed on the vehicle?

When mine came loose on my last car i did an old cowboys trick and drilled a small hole in the bottom of the cat body then screwed a self tapping screw into it , this pushed the core up onto the inside of the housing and stopping it rattling around.

Please note this is NOT a fix just a get by till you get some money to by a new one.

I've got a problem with mine at the moment, been told it's a baffle come loose in the cat. It passes the emissions but the rattle drives me mad. Anyone else tried the drilling tactic, is it easy enough

The rattle is also driving me mad! I didnt mind it for the first few weeks, but now it's a real pain.
I think im going to see this mechanic who fit my suspension and see what he says.

I may also book it in for a service, i should as im planning to sell it/exchange it for a LCR so it always looks good on the paperwork that it's had a recent-ish service.

Im going to try and ring the garage and get them to fix this problem, but would anyone reccomend a service aswell?
It was last serviced at 60K and its not got 68K on the clock, should i just wait until i hit 70K?
The only thing is that i plan to sell it in the not too distant future and i cant guarantee i'll definately hit 70K when i come to sell it.

Another thing though is that it looks good from a buyers point of view that it was recently serviced.

depends on the model but the one i just got for a leon s was around £60. Although the original was one piece the new parts are in two bits front pipe (£30 ish) and cat pipe.

However i am having trouble fitting it.

Bad News!
I went to Kwik-Fit after work and was given an estimated price of the parts needed and it was £375!
Thats just for the parts! I'll need them fitted aswell, and it's due a service!
