Car won't lock

My car won't lock using the remote or key. The key won't turn in the drivers door, but will lock and unlock the boot.

I've done some searching and found threads suggesting to check whether the courtesy lights come on - they do on all doors.

The rear passenger door recently stopped locking and the indicators didn't flash when locking (they flashed when unlocking though, but they don't any more), but all other doors still locked as normal.

Could anyone advise whether this sounds like a door lock module problem (and if so, would a problem with the passenger rear stop the key turning in the drivers lock?)? Or is it more likely to be a problem with the control unit?

Thanks

I probably should have added that the lock/unlock button on the doorcard still works.

My indicators stopped flashing when my passenger rear lock unit stopped working but other doors locked apart from the faulty one fitted a new one and all ok

Mine was like that for a couple of weeks until yesterday, now nothing happens at all and the key won't turn the lock. I've tried taking the fuses out for an hour or so, but no luck.

Thinking about this from a logical point of view makes me think the following:

- as the doors (bar passenger rear which already had a dodgy lock) lock using the doorcard button, it is likely to be the central convenience module that is knackered, rather than the solder in the lock unit.

Can anyone confirm whether this is correct? Or could a problem with the drivers door microswitch's/soldering stop all central locking working, and also prevent the key from turning in the lock?

Thanks for any help.

When you say the key 'won't turn the lock' - do you mean the lock literally doesn't turn? Or that the lock turns but nothing happens?

I'm currently replacing the drivers door lock module. I have the perfect storm of an issue with the central locking:
- Key fob chip fell off inside the fob - have now resoldered it
- Can't sync the fob with the car again as the drivers door lock just spins with no locking action (can't do the spare key sync - as in the drivers manual). So now have to lock the doors via the door card and then climb in via the boot each day...

Have bought a new door lock module, but upon taking the door apart, have found the barrel has snapped (hence the lock spinning with no locking action). So have now purchased a barrel refurb kit too.

I have a feeling the door lock module is fine and it's just the barrel, but I'm glad I'll be doing both at the same time

It won't turn at all. I've sprayed some wd40 in to see if that loosens in up, but it seems solid so I think there may be a problem. I've ordered a lock repair kit, so hopefully that'll come in time for the weekend.

I'm in the same boat as you, it might just be that the key needs re-syncing, but I can't do it because I can't turn the lock.

I'm hoping that will cure it, but I'm dubious, however it locks with the interior button, so the module isn't seized, and from my research people who have had the soldering issues have still been able to lock the other doors via the remote with just the drivers door staying unlocked, unless I've mis-interpreted the posts!

You just need to get that lock rebuild kit. What happens is when this happens they just jam up and then people usually force it harder and harder until the lock breaks.
Happened to me. It should be just it needs rebuilding.

Finally got round to doing the barrel refurb and door lock module today. Barrel is fiddly as, but it all works now and fob is synced, which means my micro solder skills are ok too :)
