car not running right after cambelt change

hasd the car in today for a cambelt and water pump change, drove back to inlaws to pick up wife in traffic so not really above 20mph, driving home 60mph back roads and car not right at all, no ecu light or anything, but car is very sluggish, you can hear the turbo spooling up quite loudly compared to normal but it seems to have no bearing on the perormance of the car, needless to say i am going back to the garage first thing tommorow. Am currently resetting ecu to see if that solves it. Anyone had this or any ideas what it is?? Another 50 mile trip to lincoln, with the leaking doors (Fixing at mo) and this i am not happy with the car at the minute at all. Car is a leon cupra r 210 if that helps at all.

will get them to check it, any chance it could cause any long term damage??? Will be looking for a goodwill petrol refund at the very least.

Yep, if the timing is out it could cause you problems. Someone recently had a thread where it turned out it wasn't the timing belt but can't remember what - either way there was plenty of info in there about potential damage/symptoms etc.

As said get it straight back, likely timing is out so don't push it and apart from driving it there try not to use it.

I personally don think its a timing issue,

The 1.8t is one of the easiest Engines to time up, single top sprocket runnign all 20 valves, with a chain transfering the timing between the inlet and exhaust cam,

louder turbo spool + loss of power, Im thinking boost leak somewhere, remember quite a few of the boost and vac pipes have to be removed to access the cambelt, if the timing was out i would of least expected an advance or retard related fault code throw itself up, just one tooth out is a large increment and will show obvious runnning differences

a 7mm socketwrench and 10 mins checking all boost pipe couplings would be my first call, also check pipes for splits

yup was a boost leak, all sorted in a few minutes, some twat rear ended me on the way there pulling out a junction, no damage though got the garage to check, also the owners lamborghini was in but he was not about for me to get him to take me for a spin as apology, car is back to her best and after ecu reset like a different car.

if the cambelt and water pump is done i wound have a look at the coil pack . i got my belt dont took it on to the moterway and it just wasing running right got it tested and it was a coil pack thank god. hope its something silly m8 [B)]

If the timing belt had been messed with thats the first place i would go back to if there was a fault. as said the 1.8T engine is easy to time up and keep in time. a few places have got it wrong and had to be retimed. coil packs always go down on theses engine and boost leaks always cause them to idle poor or hunt.

Least its sorted now. shame about the fuel used to get there and back
