Just had 40k mile service (@43k miles). I bought the bloody thing in Sept06 with just under 24k!!

Anyhoo, servicve was OK - local independent and it cost me £160. BUT, he reckons the passenger wheel bearing is on the way out. I did think the front end had been getting a bit rumbly, but thought I was just imagining things. Anyone have an idea how much that's gonna cost? I am reckoning on £150.

Then he also told me that my brake pads and discs will probably need replacing at the next service. The discs don't look too worn to me though and I don't use them too hard. He mentioned they were quite lipped. Most of my driving is motorway/a road. I am reckoning on £300+ on that. More if I get some uprated pads.

Finally, all of my tyres are down to about 2mm of tread left so will have to change all 4 within the month. I have rung around and am gonna go for Kumho Ecsta Sports KU31's. I had them on the front of my Fiesta and they were great. I have found a bloke doing them for around £55 each. I was debating whether to get Toyo Proxes or the Vredestein Sportracs but they were a bit pricey.

I wouldn't mind if it was nice new shiny bits, but it's all just money spent keeping the thing on the road. AR5E........

I am managing about 59mpg at the mo' though, which is something to be cheerful about!!

yeah I hate when my car gets expensive, this is usually when I decide I need a new one. I have had 5 cars in the last 3 years! ouch!

regarding the brakes, if your replacing the discs & pads, why not go for the ever popular AUDI TT calipers, discs & pads mod?

thats what i'm going to do when the time for replacements comes! ;)

the kuhmo ecsta's are a good tyre, was really pleased with them previously!
seemed to last for ages aswell!

How much for the TT brake mod then?? I did think about this earlier on today actually.
Will they fit under 16" rims though? The calipers on the standard brakes are close enough. And isn't the mod only for the fronts? Do the rears stay standard?

TT brakes deffo fit under the 16" wheels, done plenty of them myself.

I guess i'm quite lucky in that cars don't cost me that much (only parts at cost price). but when my washine machine packs in or my guttering falls of it does. Swings and roundabouts.

petrols killing me big time :( £100 this week and need to fill up again :-o

TT brakes will be an upgrade and cure you low pads situation thought about getting new wheels to kill two birds with 1 stone on the tyres front? i know ad lav was selling sum audi s3 rims iirc wanted about £400 for them so your modding but upgrading for next to nothing  and it feels more worth spending the money
