as i went to pull away from a junction today, i went to put my foot down and there was nothing, the engine cut out completly (no it did not stall befor you suggest that), a further half mile down the road, as i went to pull away it cut out again, as i was driving down to my house the engine management light appeard on the dash [:@] so i plugged it into vagcom when i got in and it was telling me that the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor was the problem and that it had an implausable signal.... i ran my engine for a short while just to see how it was after i had removed the fault codes, when revving the engine though it was not returning to its normal idle position, the revs were dropping right down, almost asif it was going to die. i read on another forum that this had happened to someone else, can anyone shed some light on this please? :(

I lost all power today crawling up a hill in bumper to bumper traffic today. 1.2 Btw, so dunno how relevant it'll be - the car was reading it's usual 90 degrees on the dial, but on popping the bonnet the heat was like a punch in the face. Killed the engine at ignition and left it for 10 mins to cool, started it and would only rev to 2800. Killed it, held the little clock knob in and turned the ignition and the car had full power again - I THINK that's one way of killing limp mode, which might be what you suffered.

Sounds very similar to a coil pack problem I had back when I had my 1.2.
I'm no tech but that's my experience.
Car felt like it was holding back, wouldn't rev high and felt like it was trying to stall itself.
Eventually the engine management light came on, 3rd cylinder was mis-firing and it was towed back to Seat to have the coil pack replaced.
