hope someone can advise me my son is away at college and asked me to take his cupra into the garage for mot it failed as ABS light had stayed on ,i took it to another garage who do diagnostics but after car was parked outside garage the lights would not come on dashboard and car would not start but engine turns over with key ok he has the two button type key the CL has never worked via key but do get red flashing light on door when car is locked via key ,garage says it will need to go to seat dealers which is 80 miles away so total bill will be more than car is worth nearly ten years old but in good nick and well looked after and tips or clus how i can fix this

I'm guessing it's not a Mk1 - what plate is the car on?

And where are you based?

yes a mk1 its a T plate am up in the wilds of scotland 80 miles north of glasgow

Cool.. Mk2 it is then (mk1 was a nasty Fiat based thing)

Ask the garage to check the ignition coil and fuel pump relay - both are really common to fail on the Ibiza's

If it goes to a main SEAT dealer they will a) rob you b) have no idea.

i'd also check coil packs, they're always the ones that go first!

that's what i meant, saying that i would check the coil pack (like mork said) as it's the main reason they fail to start lol

Just thinking aloud here... I have a spare coil that I could take to work in Glasgow on Sunday night if you wanted it?

They're bloody dear new, and this is useless to me now.
