Afternoon people.

I was just wondering if anyone had and info on upgrading the car audio in my Cupra. The standard sound system is pretty pathetic, so im trying to find a cost effective way of improving it. I dont want something really fancy and expensive, just an improvement on whats in it now. I dont actually mind keeping the standard stereo if thats a posibility.

Thats what I want, because on the standard speakers the sound is crap when you try and put it up loud. I dont actually know where the rear speakers are, did you just use the wiring from them to fot the 6x9's?

6x9's in the shelf arnt really the best thing to do. Decent set of fronts and a sub in the boot is what you want. I've got door speakers, tweaters, and a sub in the boot all powered by a big amp. I did have 6x9s in the shelf too but taking them out made little to no differece to the sound even though they were good and powered off the amp. Fronts will give you the clarity up front and the sub will back them up with bass.

See I cant really be arsed with subs and amps, so the front speakers and some decent 6x9's should be enough for me. Im not a massive bass fan, just dont think the current setup is good enough even for the bloody radio.

In that case i'd start with just fronts and see how that sounds. I have JBL fronts so can recommend them, a mate of mine has the Infinity fronts in his Cupra (no other audio mods) and they sound great too.

15/16cm springs to mind but i'm not too sure tbh. You may need to get speaker mount adaptors too, i can't remember now.

I put in JBL components in the front, they are 165mm and you do need speaker adaptors.

I only paid £20 for the JBL's inc postage and about £12 for the adaptors.

I didn't enjoy fitting them tho...the tweeters are a bitch because they're alot chunkier than the standards. Had to get a bit active with a hacksaw and hammer to mount them lol but I'm sure this isn't required but I'd already fibre glassed the tweeters into the plastic trim.
