i read on a company that offers remaps that there work is undetectable through any diagnostic checks.is this the case with all remapping ? if so what would be the script regarding insurance,do you tell them or not?

I think if people on here can detect a remap with vag-com, the insurance loss assessors will be in the know

I would of thought if they see a smashed up seat with fancy wheels, tints, exhaust etc then there is a fair chance of finding a remap and then not paying out

I would tell them if you can afford it cos it's a bit tricky to turn off your remap when you're in the back of an ambulance or a police car :(

Depends what you mean by "diagnostic checks".

AFAIK you can't tell by using vag-com or normal dealer diag tools.

But you'd only have to download the map, someone who understands the mapping of these cars would be able to look and know straight away. As you can buy cheap tools off Ebay to download/upload maps to/from your own car, and the software is available to read/tweak maps, the technology is readily available...

I dont think they can tell because they would have to know the original map before it was remapped, nothing is added i.e the old fashioned chip, so what can they be looking for? also celtic tuning say their remaps cannot be detected so i wouldnt tell them!!!

yes they can, as an answer, but in what situations varies.

if you mean when you go in for a service, well they will have an incline depending on the garage and then obvioulsly if they drive it.

The next stage, ie if you are claiming warranty, well maybe not. again they may find errors or differences when they plug it in to the diagnostics .

However i remmeber a while back a couple of guys on the forums who blew up ECU's using old style chip tuning. Initally they were changed under warranty, then when the ECu got sent back to headoffice for the garages warranty refund, the fiddling was spotted, leaving the garage chasing the customer for a 800 quid ECu bill.

So moral of all this is ensure if you do go for a remap you are aware that your warranty will only be as good as the dealer is nice. technically you are voiding it, any claims after are pure bonus.

id advise you declare it. its suprising how little it will cost you. in some cases nothing. eg greenlight.

I've found it can cost a fair bit on top actually, when I was getting quotes for a remapped PD100 alot of companies wouldnt quote me as the remap provided 30% more power which is more than an exhaust etc will give.

well obviusly it depends on the car.
i do agree that a remap on a pd100 may be more of an increase for insurance than say a cupra remapped as its already down as more of a performance car.

have you tried greenlight? however thinking about it their offer may only refer to petrol?
