Can Ballasts overheat?

Got my HID's in last month.
My local garage did it for me and I noticed they cabled ties the drivers side ballast to the washer container.

This side has now stopped working.

Can ballasts fail if they overheat?

Noticed in the instructions it says not to place in wet or areas of high temperature.

I've not swapped the bulbs over yet to see if it is the bulb but the drivers one does not have the same sound as the other one anymore either (faint buzzing on power up)

No apparent smell,
It did come back on momentarily today but not for long.
Gonna take it back in to the garage and get them to check all wiring.

Cheers

You might want to check if your HID's have a warranty on them and get them changed. They say that either the ballasts or the bulbs will blow once in its lifetime. I know the garage that fitted mine didnt want to cable tie it to the water bottle in case of the heat. Ive got new slimline ballasts which could fit under lights.
