Can an ipod connection be retro fitted?

I've got a TDI Sport with the standard fit radio/cd.

I'm not aware of any aux socket on the dash that I've heard people talk about on here so can it still be done by a dealer?

I asked at the SEAT garage and the not so helpful chap told me that the only service they offer is a "ipod dock" for £99 which does not include any wiring, just the physical dock for cars already spec'd with aux input.

So, basically I'm confused!

Any ideas?

Hi!

I believe you can because the car I have ordered is in stock without this so I am having the ipod connection and the parking sensors fitted and I have been assured that the ipod connection will work with the steering wheel controls. I will have a dig around and find the name of the company fitting it for you.

The company name is Auto Audio in manchester, it was sorted by the company I am getting the car through so I don't have too many details. I should get the car in the next couple of weeks I'll be able to tell you more when I get the car.

Hope this helps,

Neil

I tried my ipod through the aux connection this morning but it sounded like it had a wooshing sound in the background when played with the volume low.

Would it be better to get a proper ipod connection done by an ICE installer.

The dealership I have used in Canterbury uses a company that can retro fit the Ipod connection. It works in the same way as the manufactured fitted one, the only difference being the Ipod connects through the glove box. I think they were wanting about £175.

Not an ipod expert, but I play my MP3 player (iaudio X5) through aux in and sounds great. Put valume up to 75% of max and turn off any sound effects, see if that makes any difference. I use headphone out not aux out. Hope that helps

My Leon is a March 06 car, before the Aux in connection was available. I had the optional ipod connection fitted, which is just a Dension Ice Link Plus. It emulates a cd changer so all the steering wheel controls work but if you have a cd changer (And I think Aux in, they wont work) . This was fitted before I picked up the car, by the dealer, ie after the car was finished so yes it should be able to be retro fitted, by anyone.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for that useful info. Do you know how long the cables are? Do you think they could reach the armrest if fitted?

Thanks

£99 for the cable and £40 for installation, that sound about right? Still not sure what dock would suit the armrest.
