cambelt and Water Pump (TDI)

Hi all,

I'm considering a Mk1 Leon FR TDI thats on an 04 plate but has only 20k on the clock. At present I have an Octavia vRS and the book stated 120k to change cambelt, but then Skoda changed this to 120k or 4 years, whichever comes first. Does this also apply to Seat since they are the same group ? Don't want to have to fork out 300-400 quid in 6-12 months for this work to be done.

Was going to get a MK2 FR, but an extra 6k is a lot for only an extra 100cc and 20bhp, and the 2nd hand prices are still around 15k

Cheers

Hi Mate
Same engines so yes that would be the same
The diesels though require this every 60k

what sort of price would you charge to do this sarah? looking at TDI's currently of the 50-60k mile mark, this could be a haggling point if its not been done ;)

Cheers Sarah. I was going to use this as a bartering point if it was the 4 years, but since it's not i'll have to use some other methods to get the price down. Took a 54 cupra for a drive today. Enjoyed it. It was like getting into the Octavia, with a the bits ebing in the same place. The 39.5 MPG over 1250 miles on the trip computer did concern me though, as did the flashing red light on the temp guage

Mmmm
Jase £295.00 + VAT for the cam belt , tensioner and water pump with the metal impella
It is always a good haggling point , so get it in
Could knock you £500 ish off the price

Mmmm may be worth getting that checked out
May be something simple like coolant temp sensor , or something like that water pump breaking up  be carefull with it , as if the water pump has been gone for a while then it could have implications on the head gasket
Fuel economy should be better too , so defo get a full check over done on it

Think I'll just give it a miss. The light was the coolant sensor warning. There's no shortage of MK1 TDI's about, so I can be picky about the one I choose (and it was grey and I'd prefer yellow or red). Shame the Mk2 isn't a bit cheaper as ideally I'd have prefered that but they still go for 15k trade  so the MK1 offers better value.
