I have a alhambra 2ltr 1997 i want to change the cam belt but not sure if i need special tools or locking pins for changing the cam belt and is it worth changing the the tensioners as well

not sure? on the TDI's you need a set of locking pins to hold the cams still but on the 2ltr petrol (ADY engine?) I have no idea! of all the tech info on the Galaxy I have there is nothing about working on the 2 ltr petrol VW lump :(
and yes well worth while replaceing the tensioner and if possible the water pump at the same time! as these are known to fail on a fairly regular basis! the impellor drops off the shaft!

Hi,
on the 2.0 there are no locking pins required, but there are marks on the crank, cam and auxillary pulleys which have to stay aligned, you should always replace the tensioner with the belt and it is also advised to replace the p.a.s belt and alternator belt. There is a special tool required to adjust the tensioner. The water pump on this engine is not driven by the cam belt.

Regards, Jochen.
