My garage have quoted me £142 all in. So thats parts (lol, only like £8 anyway), labour and VAT. I think thats an OK price.

Oh rite, Im looking at getting mine done too. Mines only a 1.4 8v and ive been quoted £250 for a cambelt and water pump change. Is that high, £80 sounds like a bargain to me

Sounds like there having your pants down mate even with the water pump :-o

If you know one end of a spanner to the other and have a haynes manual you should be able to do it yourself on a 8v.

you may as well do all the belts and the tensioner, parts come to about £65 from GSF and it took me about 2.5Hrs to do the lot - it would only take 1.5 if i had to do it again! Was not hard.

i was told that there no need to change the tensioner as they have never seen one go on a 16v.
Here the attached bill.

I'll be using this as evidence to beat the price down when I get mine done! (I'll hide the date!)

Otherwise its a trip over to York.

I got mine changed on my old Cordy for £12.53! :p I supplied the parts, which were from GSF. It took an hour and 10 minutes, which included driving it in and out of the workshop.

If you do the change, you should buy a good quality belt (gates/contitech should be fine as they're OE with many makes), tensioner and water pump with a metal impeller. There's no point leaving the water pump out because they're known to fail and it'd cost you a cambelt swap plus more to replace it. Also, the dealers may not see the tensioners go because the belts are known to go first.

OK guys, thinking of doing it myself. But just how hard a job is it. I'm not too bad when it comes to working on cars. In the past I have changed my suspension, brakes, bleed the brake system, and other bits and bobs. Are there any special tools needed. And also are there any bits that need removing that are known to be seized up and not wanting to go???

Cheers

youll need some torx sockets for the crank pulley, erm removing the air intake is easy enough. cam covers just have a couple of bolts, once u remove the lower pulley it will be straight forward. The tensioner is just a pulley on an excentric bolt, slacken the bolt and u loose tension. then change the belt, the i used some circlip pliers in the pulley got the tension and tightend it up :D
.. also i had tipex! to make the pulleys :)
