Hi guys, after some advice Snows Seat Southampton had my Leon in today for cambelt change under their fixed price servicing £299.

Received a call this afternoon advising that there is a problem and the engine mount bolt has been threaded and I now need a new engine mount which costs circa £200 to fix, after complaining about this they are willing to drop to £76 but no more, which I Am still not happy about to be honest as its fixed price servicing that surely should cover this?

Snows are arguing that as its a 12 year old car this is expected and in no way their error which I am unsure about. They have a age limit of 15 years so surely they have factored for this?

Unfortunately Seat UK are closed now until Monday as I want some facts from them but can anyone confirm that the standard practise is to undo the engine mount not remove as the dealer explained?

Would trying to shift the engine with a loosened mount cause the the threading issue?

It's not as if this can be put back as was and has to be replaced now so I feel like I'm being held to ransome so to speak anyone else had this happen to them?

Regards

Depends which mount it is, loosen the passenger one to slide the engine over.

But none of the mounts themselves are threaded, only what they go into. If it was already cross threaded then they aren't at fault and you would have to pay for this.

Thanks Dan, mount never touched other than by SEAT, bolts are apparently 1 use only so even with loosening I would expect the bolt to be replaced which it doesnt appear was the plan if only loosening.... they called this morning and advised they would waive the cost and finish the job after I advised I was seeking legal advice on the matter and raised a case with SEAT UK. My car is also on the ramp in bits preventing them from working on other cars so guess they want it out of the way... just hope they do it properly!

**** happens
not uncommon for other parts, bolts to shear IF in previous changes the bolts were'nt replaced and over tightened.. Easily damaging the threads in the ally engine mounts.
Usually recoverable by helicoiling them however at much less extra ££ tho

Fixed prices are fixed prices for the parts and labour to do the job a clutch is a fixed price but if the car needs a dual mass as well that's not going to be included in that price.

As for your situation stuff breaks it's not always the techs fault It's things like this why I refuse to work on older cars because I have no interest in having wages docked for things I didn't break.

Fact is the fixed price is only available for up to 15 year old cars sp the limit kind of suggests that this is unexpected, couldn't find the full terms and conditions of the fixes price servicing but I guess this is something that may have been overlooked. Not saying it was techie error but without actually being there and witnessing the work who knows, its quite possible a compreaaor was used when it shouldnt have been for example. Anyway Im grateful for SNOWS SEAT putting it right, I got it back as I left it

Sorry for the rant I lost my first job due to circumstances similar to this so it's still a bit of a tender spot.

the thing with the 3-15 year fixed prices is as you say the customer expects nothing to go wrog but when a 2006 altea pulls in with 227k on the clock it's just not a reasonable assumption

As you said the cost of having your car sitting on the ramp really adds up And glad snows seat got it sorted :)
