Hi

I seem to have a CV Joint problem coming from the drivers side of the car, it only happens when the car is turning right and it is a grinding noise. I jacked up the car today to check the drive shaft and there does not seem to be mush wrong, the CV rubber boot has not ripped, and there is no damage to the drive shaft from what I could see.

The only problem I found was a small amount of oil coming from the CV boot which is closes too the gear box and that was from the small end of the CV rubber boot which has lost it metal clip somehow, Is it OK to replace this metal clip with a Jubilee Clip.

As long as there's enough clearance the jubilee clip should be fine. When the outer joint goes it usually makes a clicking noise in my experience. Could it be the wheel bearing starting to go?

I checked the wheel bearing for movement and all seems find in that department. Is it common for CV joint to where out on lowered cars, and are the drive shafts easy to replace, do you need any special tools to get them out?

I shouldn't think lowering the car would effect the cv's, usually the boot gets a split/crack somewhere then dirt gets in and rubs the join like sandpaper. I think taking out the bolts for the inner joint, disconnecting the bottom ball joint and taking off the hub nut should get them off. Mostly just a bit physical and a bit of time. Is the noise only when you turn sharp or does it happen on shallow bends when cruising? I would also check the disc for any scuffing around the edge as that could point to wheel bearing. They tend to get noisy first then get play as they wear down.

The noise only happens when turning slowly on right hand turns, parking up is when it most noticeable, at normal driving speed it seem to be fine.

Would excessive play in the lower control arm course problems with a drive shaft.

I would inject some grease into the CV joint using a syringe of some sort and then cable tie the end shut.

You'd be aswell trying it. A lot of solving some of these problems can be a process of elimination. You just have to try all the cheapest options first. It doesn't sound like a wheel bearing though. You might also have a sticky caliper where the sliders are sticking and when the hub flexes a bit it's causing the pad to rub or there might just be a build up of crud around the caliper and drive shaft end. My abs keeps coming and going just now because of all the crap on the roads, if I power wash the back of the front wheels it cures it for a while but after drivin through more crap it starts messin about again.

No, it's not the brakes I service them every year in the summer just to be on the safe side.
