buying a cupra

hey folks just neeeding some one to answer a few questions for me, although i expect you have answered them a million time before lol :happy:

i am buying a x reg, ibiza cupra has done 84000 miles and i know the car and owner well iand what problems the car has had. it has had a few things done, full exhuast system, induction kit, revo remap.

current owner is unsure about bhp but rekons about 210bhp? does this sound about right?

it has had the usual coil pack problems, however i think when they have been changed it has been non- oem parts, is it worth getting proper oem coil packs or even after market ones?

afert sitting for about 15mins the cars temp gauge goes right up and brings on the warning light but when driving no problems at all sits at normal temp, owner rekons this is just sensor and has a new one does this sound right also?

i have no intentions of upping the cars power any more as i need to it to retain some economy as i drive abot 50miles to work everyday, so is it worth my while doing the n249 bypass?

any help/ general advice would be very muich appreciated!

oh dear....first thing i can do for help and advice is advise you to use the search feature on the site it will make your life on here so much easyer...the n249 does nothing atall for econemy or drivability the best it does it make the dv a quicker response and tidy up some of the crap in the bay giving you less to go wrong...temp gauge could also be water pump do you no if it has had this done..? Id say you need to vag-com it but not sure if you no what this is..? Power wise around 190-200bhp iirc the k03 maxes out at about 210 so unless he has it running at its limit than u cant expect that...

yea i know i really should just use search but being at work just now it was easyier just to post than spend time looking throught the site lol at least need to pretend im doing some work lol

i know what vag-com is but dont own or have access to a laptop with it installed, i know that a local tuner had the car on a computer to clear a fault code and it seemed to be caused by the 007 forge dump valve that was on it as once this was removed all was ok....any idea what would have caused this? as far as i know when that was getting fixed the garage found no other issues on thier computer.

water pump hasnt been done either any quick to find out if it is the pump or the sensor? falling that since the guy as the sensor might just change it and see what happens! lol

i am still in two mind if i should by the car or not? i love the car to drive, its looks , interior, power etc but i am a bit worried about some of the relieablity isssues i have heard of and on this car at least what seems to be the constant need to replace coil packs! lol

so at 84000 miles the water pump has still not been changed...?? Has it had the cambelt done because normaly its done with it as a precaution iirc its about £300 for that...easyest way to find out anything with this car is vag-com bit of a guessing game otherwise...and ive never known a 007p to bring up or cause a fault unless it needed servicing or somthing like that. loads of people use it on here with no problems atall its advised to change it anyway because the oem one can fail...what dv does it have on it now then..? And its well worth having a look around the site and having a search all these questions could of been answered in 5mins...

from what i know the cambelt was done at 60000 i know where it was done so will call the garage that done it and see if the waterpump was done at same time

as for the dv, it now has a standard bosch one on i think, upom closer inspection of the forge dv i did notice that top half was very loose i think the issue may have been with the forge dv itself as it was 2nd hand when it went on the car previously having been on a golf gti!

Hi Fraz, welcome to the site.

Well, lets go though a few things you've said;

1) Coilpacks, don't change them unless you don't need to, chances are they will go again! And when they do, thats when you can worry about replacing them (very easy to do).

2) The temp warning light could be any of the following;

a) faulty coolant temp sensor - these are around £20 from ECP/GSF or main dealer, they have a green top, and come with a new o-ring seal (from ECP they do anyway!), take about 5 mins to fit maximum! - Although be prepared to loose a bit of coolant, and also do it when the engines cold so you don't get hot coolant over yourself!

b) faulty thermostat - could be a sticking thermostat - again, cheap, maybe £10ish from a dealer, not sure regarding fitting, wouldn't imagine its hard, but it might be tricky getting to it.

c) faulty water pump - if it hasn't been changed CHANGE IT! And change the cam belt again whilst your getting that done.

a and b are quick solutions, as s1l3nc3r says, you really need to get VAG com on it, as that will show a CTS fault.

As for the dump valve, 007p's are cheap enough brand new, just get another one and bin the other.
