Buy this tuning Chip yes / no ?

Hi all

I was thinking of getting a tuning chip for my 2005 Altea 2.0TDI and saw this eBay item 300333381517 (copy & paste number in to eBay search box) I emailed the seller and he says that the chip I need is the PD Pro and it will fit my car, however a different seller says that it won't fit because for a 2.0 you need a fully digital unit plugging into the fuel injection system with the large circular connectors and he has that device for £325.

I don't know if this is true or if he is just trying to get me to buy his more expensive item, does anybody have any ideas? will the eBay item work?

If you look at the pictures in his listing my engine appears to be the 2nd down on the left.

Any advice is very welcome.

Thanks
Graham

Remap............too many horror stories on chips and plugins to be sure of any of them. remap from most peoples experience best way and can be had for less than that item on ebay.

Revo, Custom Code, Jabba, V-tune etc etc for remaps.

Sweet baby Jesus don't do it.

I know remaps seem expensive for what could be argued to be nothing more than a load of code/data.

However, if you have issues, aftercare problems, warranty problems (esp. if due to this 'chip' thing), how you will you feel knowing you saved a few quid today to have robbed yourself tomorrow. What do you think he will do for you if it all goes tits up? In some cases even new cars will throw error codes when you run a remap as it can exploit weaknesses that weren't yet apparent with the OEM map, so make sure that you get the support you need to save longer term issues.

I can't recommend strongly enough you not buying cheap tat that is not appropriately tested in a general or motorsport capacity.

Yep! totally agree a remap is the way to go, had mine done over a year ago now with no problems. I was going to get a chip prior the remap but heard all the horror storys so I did not want to risk it.

Thanks guys for all your replies, I think I will go with the remap.

Just out of curiosity what kind of price should I be looking at for the remap?

Cheers
Graham

As i dony know the pricer over there, i would say just dont go for the cheapest or the most expencive, good luck and let us know the results.

There's no F in Quality..
Custom Code and Revo are about £300-400 for a remap.

Have a look at the suppliers who all have their own sections on the main forum page, and see which offer the best value for money.

Any who advertise on here, are all worthy of investment in my opinion.

Good advice there fella,

presuming you want more power and flexibility, a potential fuel savings without goosing your car worth investing in a set up bespoke to your car.

Most of these cheapos just make your car run very rich by kidding the ecu it's still cold which is just a recipe for tons of black smoke and high fuel consumption.
I used to do the same thing when I were a lad - pulling out the choke on my 1.3 Chevette - never worked then, but in my dreams it felt like a 1.6 Cav!
Those were the days when cars weren't run by Microsoft products...........

i no your all going to say im wrong but i run tuning boxes on a number of vehicles and use good companies ie dragon tuning boxes, tuningbox.com (more power from my experiance loverly bit of kit) but i cannot fault the service from diesel tuner i think it is they produce the spider tuning box fantastic bit of kit smart and changes to ur driving style well worth a look
