Hi all, please go easy on me I know nothing about cars.

A bit of background, 6 months ago I put 4 new tyres on my Seat 1.9 TDI FR 06 and put it through MOT using seat specialists in Cardiff just before the warranty was due to expire. All was well and good no issues.

5000 miles later Just been to the garage (a different one) as I noticed an issue with the steering and the bushes need replacing. Apparently they are really bad an I shouldn’t drive the Card until its fixed (booked in Tuesday) and also the two front tyres need to be replaced as a result of the Bushes issues. So I’m told £200 for two tyres (pirelli p nero zero) and between £100-£200 for the bushes. + tracking.

The guy in the new garage suggested that due to the state of the bushes and the wear of the tyres he would have expected the bush issue to be flagged on the MOT back in June 06 as at least an advisory.

So my question is have I got cause to go back to the original Seat garage to give them **** about this and possibly get some cash off them?

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig.

Sorry, but I'd reckon that as there is a possibility that you might have "caned" the car and ripped the voided bushes - or at least made them a lot worse than they were at MOT time. These voided bushes are just rubbish and do start to tear quite early in their life. I think that you will find that quite a lot of VAG dealers understand this crap design and use due diligance when checking these car out to the current MOT handbook. My wife's 2003 Polo never picked up any comments or advisories on that problem although one side was badly torn. I'd guess that is the way it is with this part as the car is still usually driveable from a safety point of view - although the front tyres will get trashed quite quickly. MOT testers from independant garages or another marque will probably take a different view of what they have found - this will always happen when its down to a human being to make a judgement, based on his previous experience, on a partially worn part.

:( My 130 Sport flew through it's MOT with not even an advisory.6 months later at it's service a specialist picked up:2 broken front springs, and both front(rear) bushes stuffed.
Hadn't thrashed it or hit anything on the road.I'd noticed a noise from the osf spring mind.
I think the broken springs knackered the bushes but i'm not sure.
Anyway,i think like with your own car,it's just wear and tear.Just one of those things.
