Build Quality Issues

My dad has had his new car for about a month now (2006 Toledo Stylance with sports pack) and when i was giving it a wash this weekend i noticed a few things concerning build quality which worried me a bit.

First problem is the paint finish on the bonnet.

As the picture shows on the lip on the bonnet there is only the undercoat and no top coat of paint.

Another issue is panel gaps in the interior.

Should these gaps be soo big?

And the final issue is the drivers seat.

As you can see some threads have started to come out of the stitching.

I know i am posting this in the Altea section but these cars are basically the same and there are more Altea owners on here.

I am just wondering if anyone else have had these problem or have them. The car is due a service in 4500 miles time, so i'll get my dad to mention these issues to the garage.

Any help/comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks again

My Altea does not have the bad paint & poor console fit like yours. Though I do have the odd thread showing on seats. 05 plate 2.0 TDI Sport

Your Dad's car should never have left the factory in that state, I suspect the bonnet has been resprayed/replaced possibly due to damage when in transit from the factory in Spain. I bought a new citroen zx in '93 which suffered a similar feit and I only found out when I came to px for another 6 months later :(

Suffice to say your Dad should take it back to the dealers and demand these faults be rectified. Might be worth getting an independant inspection if they get difficult as it clearly is not a factory bonnet and when you buy a new car you expect it to be new don't you ?

How can you tell that the bonnet has been replaced?

Could it have left the factory this way?

It is a company car so the garage should be under some pressure to sort these problems

It just strikes me from the photo that the bonnet has been resprayed on the car whereas it would be sprayed off the car at the factory. Try looking closely to see if there is a colour indifference across panels, may only be evident in certain light conditions though. Also check under the bonnet at the front slam panel it should have some stickers on it from the factory which usually never get replaced if there has been any crash damage repaired. You could take it to a local friendly garage and ask them to have a quick look and point out to you the tell tale signs so you have some ammo against the supplying dealer.

I would take it to the dealer as soon as you can. I wouldn't leave it. It does look suspicious, but a visit to the dealer is necessary to register your concerns.
My passenger seat has lost a couple of threads also. That's after 24k.

As the others have said I would go back to the dealers ASAP. It might be worth getting hold of someone with a paint micrometer to test if any extra paint has been added to the car since leaving the factory. Would it be possable that the car as had a front end collision, causing the centre console to be pushed back and hence result in the poor fitting? seems to fit in with the bonnet being resprayed. Another good way of telling if the bonnet has been resprayed is during the night - the different shades of red will stand out a mile under street lighting. good luck with this one!
