Hi everyone, I've caught someones wing mirror this morning with my own, school at top of road, double parking everywhere and me in rush, didnt think I was any where near the car I caught and wondered if woman had moved her car just as I went past, but I guess it was just my silly mistake as she said she was stationery. Her mirror was fine.

Anyway, mine bent towards the car which is fine but the mirror cracked. It was hanging out of the holder/cover part of the mirror. I stuck it back and it has stayed there and the motor is working.

What can i do? can a new mirror be put on? or is it more difficult/expensive than that?
Does it need a hole piece inc the actual painted cover etc.

The actual paint is marked but im sure t cut may sort that.

Advice appreciated.

you can get replacement glass about £4.00 ithink becarefull i got after market one that magnifies little weird at first good for reversing tho!

the cover comes of using a flat blade driver press into bottom of mirror inside glass side the mirror housing will come off!

Get a heat gun warm the mirror lightly and remove old glass clean off any sticky stuff left

I then replaced the housing and then fitted mirror otherwise the mirror will scrape the side of the housing

remove housing press the glass firmly grease the motor/linkage

housing back

dont put the glass over the original broken glass it looks crap and it add weight to your car!

job done!

;):p

Similar thing happened to me. Except I was asleep and some numpty decided to let my mirror hang off.

think the glass alone (from Seat) was about £40ish but obviously this has all the electrical connectors for electrical operation and heaters.

Depends whether you have heater mirrors really. As already stated - new heated mirror from dealership is £45-odds.

If your existing mirror glass isn't totally smashed, I'd get replacement glass at halfrauds for around £6 and stick it on top. Heating will still work, but not as efficiently.

UPDATE

Got the mirror from dealer, gave him chassis number and he gave me what should be the correct part.

I just have one question which the guy in parts who sold me it wasn't sure about!

When I take my cracked mirror out of the housing it is attached by two wires, the wires come from inside the mirror housing and run into the back of the mirror, the mirror being attached to that black plastic thing which clicks into the housing, sorry if im not making sense!

Anyway, when I spoke to the guy at the seat parts counter he said are my mirrors heated, I said no and he went off to see if it was another part. He came back and said the one he gave me was the one that matched the car/chassis/VIN (cant remember which he called it) number. His guess and also my guess is that the 2 wires are for heated mirrors and the car just doesnt have the necessary button (inside the car) to activate heated mirrors, so the wires are there but not actually doing anything.

So Im wondering if I should just cut the wires to release the broken mirror and then leave them loose behind the new mirror.

any thoughts anyone???

Dont cut them, they will just pull out and then re-attach to your new mirror.

Heated mirrors work with the rear heated window (from what i can remeber, damn this warm weather) So when you activate the rear heated window so will the mirrors.

I only have a 1.8se and am not aware I even have heated mirrors! how can I find out if I have? the 2 wires look like they are stuck to small amounts of silvery metal (maybe solder) and they didnt appear to be something I could just take off/out by just pulling.

will have another look tomorrow morning.

this is the problem...I dont know what standard is.

The item I have is a mirror which has a black plastic back which clicks into the housing (onto the part that actually moves) ....... looks exactly the same as what is on the back of the existing mirror.......except I have the 2 wires coming out of the mirror housing that if I detach from the existing mirror I will then need to try and attach to the new mirror.

The wires dont look like they just clip out and thats the problem.

left them connected inside the housing, they are covered spades so wont short anything out.

cordoba....sorry for appearing stupid.....Its not the fact that they come from the housing thats an issue.

Its the fact they attach to the rear of the mirror that is the issue.

How did you detach them from the back of the original mirror and then re-attach to the new mirror?

i disconnected them from the broken one then tucked them into the housing, i didnt reconnect them, it wont cause any problems, ive had mine on for a few months with no problems.
