Hey mate, I just saw your other post and this one, first thing I'll say is your turbo will not be destroyed/damaged as long as you haven't driven it too far.

The other end of that pipe is bolted on to the manifold, what you need to do is take off the blanking plate and install it on the manifold directly and lose that pipe you're holding altogether.

Follow this EGR Delete Guide off Briskoda and you'll see where I mean, it's the 14th picture onwards.

The loss of power described in the other thread is because a lot of the exhaust gas will be escaping out of that split pipe, more so now that it's a huge hole! This means there isn't enough exhaust pressure to spin the turbo correctly and therefore no boost is being made. Hence, no power and probably a whistling/hissing noise and a really choking smell under the bonnet!

Have a look at this and let us know how you get on :)

I just bought another used egr pipe, ffs i wish i seen your post first. Ive got the new pipe installed with the blanking plate, but it will be getting removed tomorrow and directly blanked off. another stupid question, will the pressure not build up behind this blanking plate and cause more problems or do i need to the get the egr mapped out? thanks in advance

Ah sorry mate, at least you know what the issue was and you can always sell that pipe on. No the pressure will be fine, when the EGR is closed the pressure just builds in that pipe you removed anyway, and by removing that pipe it's 1 less thing to go wrong and leak!
As long as you have the vacuum lines plugged/removed then it'll run just fine, depending on the age you might het an EML on which is an MOT failure, otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

I'd recommend getting it mapped out eventually...it'll just run with an EML until you do. I wouldn't worry about any adverse effects from the EGR delete, I ran my 150 GT TDi without any issues what so ever :) stripped the entire EGR system out including the piping and all the EGR cooler and blanked off at the manifold

Same as what happened to me, my pipe split a while back, had it welded up and it had just started leaking again before I fit my EGR delete. It's definitely worth removing that pipe and cooler on the PD150.

Egr

Thanks for all the comments, really appreciate the help. Took the egr pipe off and put the blanking plate on. I have only one vacuum pipe which connects to the top of egr delete pipe itself, only question i have what do i do with the egr switch ?

When you say tucked in, do you mean you've taken it off the old EGR pipe and left it in place on the car? If so, it's better just to pull it off and plug/remove the vac line as it will be serving no function. It'll pass MOT as long as you don't get an engine light showing on the dash which I believe pre-2003 cats don't get. If you do get an EML it'll need mapping out, or you'll need to remove the valve and fit a resistor in to the plug.

Nps ill get it taken off tomorrow. While ive got your attention and your knowledge, what upgrades could i do with this car seeing as its a 90bhp I was going to stick a 110hp turbo in, but would the fuel injectors need replaced ? planning on buying a cobra cat back non resonated exhaust in the next few weeks. you any advice ?

I'm not very up on the non-PD engines but from things I've seen the differences are mainly turbo, injectors and gearbox so probably an uprated turbo (vnt-15/vnt-17), injectors and clutch and also exhaust with a custom map to suit. You could just go for a remap but will likely only see around 110-120bhp. After this it's things like the camshaft and head bolts and more intricate/expensive bits.

To be fair, for the money you could end up spending on these parts (unless you find some good deals) you might be better looking for a PD130 or even a Cupra and have it remapped which will see you to around 180bhp.

I think the farthest id venture would be new turbo, injectors,a custom exhaust, remap and dpf removal. Its more of a project for me rather than changing a car as i only bought it about 2 months ago and i like it so far. Much better than bmw 118d i had

Fair enough mate, I can understand wanting to keep it on as a project. In that case, I'd look for everything on a deal, second hand, group buys etc and see if you can get stuff as cheap as possible. That year and that engine doesn't have a DPF so there's some money saved to begin with ;) I've been in a few other more modern/equipped cars and the Leon still feels nicer and drives better.

Don't change to a PD. Your 90bhp Bosch VE engine is the most reliable and economical version of the 1.9 TDi that VW ever built. It's not as powerful as the PDs but it'll still be running when they've been recycled into bean tins.

Remap, 110 injectors and egr bypass will see about 140bhp with plenty of torque and excellent fuel economy whilst retaining brilliant reliability.
